Secrets of the Sambar
'The Trilogy' Reviews

Volume 1

It’s absolutely brilliant. In Australian terms a masterpiece publication. It is without peer. Rod Barford - Flytreck, Cowes, Vic.

Having read most hunting stories of old India on Sambar by the great English authors, this book leaves them in its wake. I do not think there has ever been a book written with so much information regarding Sambar. And for a person to write this book in a country where they were introduced it is nothing short of outstanding. A magnificent book. Robert Hoggard - Traralgon, Victoria

No where else have I come across such a well researched hunting publication of such high quality - you and your wife are to be commended. I really hope that your trilogy is discovered by the mainstream media, for they really are deserved of recognition outside of the hunting fraternity. Andrew Wilson - Geelong, Victoria

This book sets a new standard for the Australian hunting scene with its well-written text, excellent colour photographs and high quality presentation. Ken Slee - Editor Australian Deer

I believe this is the nest, most comprehensive book I’ve ever seen on the subject of hunting. My compliments to your wife’s design and layout of the book as well - fabulous! Stu Nylund

Errol’s accumulated knowledge is evident in every page; I don’t believe there could be a better book written on the subject. Maggie McEwing - NZ Outdoor Hunting Mag.

Congratulations on a magnificent book easily the most informative and well researched book on hunting that I have read! Scott Wilson - Wodonga, Victoria

Volume 2

This has to be the definitive work on sambar, a truly fine effort. Maggie McEwing - NZ Outdoor Hunting Mag.

Errol Mason, highly regarded Sambar expert, hunting guide and author, has produced the second volume in his series of “Secrets of the Sambar” books. Following on from the extremely well received volume one, this 252-page full colour hard cover book, includes numerous topics that complement and add to the topics discussed in volume one. The book is a quality reference that will be appreciated by young and old alike. Errol Mason’s book, “Secrets of the Sambar” Volume 2, completes the package that involves a good bottle of red, a comfortable sofa and many hours of enthralling reading. Breil Jackson - Guns and Game Mag.

On receiving my copy of the book for review the first question was how could the author possibly write a second volume without repeating what had already been covered in the very comprehensive first volume. Happy to say, the content does not go over old ground and is all new as well as being entertaining, informative and a very good record of recent developments in Victoria’s sambar population. It is profusely illustrated with scores of mostly colour plates and maintains the very high standards set by Errol in Volume 1. It is highly recommended to any sambar hunter or aspiring sambar hunter – the quality is excellent no sambar hunter’s library will be complete without a copy! Ken Slee - Editor Australian Deer

I am a very keen deer hunter, I have read your Secrets of Sambar Vol 1, and currently studying Vol 2. The information I have learnt from these books is absolutely amazing and I cannot describe to you how much these have helped my hunting. Luke Forbes

Congratulations on your truly sensational Secrets of the Sambar Volume 2. Chapters covered are extremely informative regarding technical information, and it’s entertaining to read other hunters stories of success. You have set yourselves a hard task to match this extremely high standard in Volume 3. Keep up the brilliant work! Glen Monte - Albury NSW

Firstly, congratulations to you both for a first class effort and subsequent publication. It’s excellent reading and as far as I’m concerned, it’s also THE reference material for sambar and sambar hunting. Jehangir Devitre - NSW

Volume 3

I just got Volume 3. It’s bloody marvellous. You get better each time. Graham Grant Orbost, Vic

Received Vol.3 and am impressed. The Trilogy hasn’t tapered off at all. The results have shown that you can’t rush perfection and the wait well worthwhile. Hopefully in the back of your mind there is the germ of an idea for a future effort--after a well earned break. Fingers crossed. Russ Marsden VIC

Errol, your book arrived today in good order as a result I have done no work at all. Stephen Taihapet VIC

Hi Lynne, I’m well aware that this book was a partnership as were the previous volumes. You have done an amazing job with the structure and design of the book and the pair of you should be damn proud of your accomplishments. I understand you do a lot behind the scenes and as the saying goes, behind every great man there’s an even better woman. Daniel Peat

Superb photos of wild sambar and new and interesting facts not covered in the previous two books makes this volume easily Errol’s best. Robert Hoggard Traralgon, Victoria.

Thank you Errol, it is a masterpiece and I will treasure it and its two companions who have long awaited its arrival to make the set complete. It is a mighty accomplishment that few would be capable of. Now, you owe it to yourself to rest, and then when rest turns to restlessness - get yourself to India with a camera for Vol 4. Brett Cooke Orange NSW

I must say you have excelled yourself this time, after a quick thumb through it is obvious that the overall impact is captivating, the photos are bigger and better. Geoff McClure Alexandra, Vic
